I am all for theming, but on Monday night I think Mother Nature took it a little bit too far when we held our Flood Relief Fundrasier in conjunction with Restaurant Rapide. The heavens opened late afternoon and we experienced the first storm which I prayed would clear and then around 6pm, when our soiree was due to start, the second deluge came down. I was so worried we would be the only ones here and with the coldroom full of the awesome food Sharon and the team had prepared started to panic a little. It wasn’t long before people started to arrive though with umbrellas in tow. Our footpath was covered with water and women were standing ankle deep in their heels (and thongs) waiting to get a drink as the torrent came down the street. A bus rounded the corner causing a small suburban tsunami and I was anxious our fearless band, The Zimmer Twins, would have to pack up their equipment!! Timmy came to the rescue and used bags of ice to ebb the flow and that worked a treat.
Around 7pm it started to clear and more brave souls came out to play, including one lady with gorgeous pink floral wellies!! The band cranked up and we had the most awesome night. If you are looking for live music The Zimmer Twins are just the ticket. Ken, Richard and Darren were originally organised to play one hour and when the other entertainment pulled out they gallantly agreed to play on which was just fantastic.
We need to thank Ray and the boys at Brisbane Bulk Meats, Paul from Cardinal Seafoods and Samios Foods for their contribution of some supplies for the night. Also to Gaye Steley from Little Pods who donated a kids hat stand/tree as an Auction prize and also Sam from Rapide who donated dinner for four people. We raised over $4500 for the Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal and to all those who came to offer their support, we are so grateful and offer you our most humble thanks.
I also just wanted to share an email we received from Noelene and Barry Bellotti the next morning…
“I have been browsing your website and saw the quote about Miss Piggy. Think I inadvertantly became her and tried to eat more than I could lift. And I’m not joking.
The food was ‘off the planet’ good. Really really yummy. Had some firm favourites, the fillet mignon, the peking duck rolls, the seafood bags, the prawns, the risotto balls…..everything really.
Met some great people. Total strangers all huddled together keeping dry and under the awning. Good conversation, good wine and fantastic food. Great host!!!
Your community spirit in organising and working so hard for the flood relief is awesome. Thanks again to everyone involved.”
WOW I am so humbled and grateful, as I mentioned earlier, and so thrilled to be such a part of this community. As one guest left, she said “we should do this every year” and I agree – the plan is to choose a different cause each year and pray for dry weather!!
