As I am growing older I have decided Autumn is my favourite time of year…the season that still has gorgeous warm cloudless days, the ocean is the most perfect temperature for a swim, there is a slight nip in the air in the early mornings and you can start to snuggle at night – that is if you didn’t still have a 19 month old baby in the bed!! Oh and by the way my birthday is in Autumn and I love birthdays!!
I set the table with a big bunch of freshly picked rosemary from the garden and pulled out the divine crystal glasses Tim’s Mum and Dad gave us for our Wedding. I had these packed away to use for “good” and last week decided they needed to see the light of day and actually get used. I have decided every day is “good” and not to be taken for granted.
To celebrate my great adoration for this season I held an Autumnal Lunch with some gorgeous gals (all fourteen of them). Sue arrived with delicious antique pink roses that had the most divine hue and were wrapped in brown paper and string (two of my favourite things), Erin brought her scrummy couscous salad with haloumi (another fave) and then Jo walked through the door with her white chocolate cheesecake laden with fresh blueberries (what more do I need to say).
We feasted on rice paper wraps with fresh sandcrab, apple and cucumber to start and then devoured a sublime Pumpkin and Leek Tart with wild mushrooms, Artichoke, Olive and Rocket Salad and an Asian Slaw.
To finish we had the afore mentioned Cheesecake and a gorgeous Lemon Yoghurt Cake as well as a ripe Brie with Zucchini, Fig and Almond Bread.
Wonderful company and food as an ode to Autumn – just perfect.
